Saving money

Prefabricated carports are made in numbers. By producing these carports in a factory, they can achieve economies of scale that will lower the unit cost compared to custm built carports. This is caused by a more efficient use of labour and materials that creates less wastage of both. Also a carport kit erected by a DIY tragic has almost no labour cost in this phase as well.

Fast Construction

My experince is that a custom built carport will take a long time just to get it designed and a builder selected. Even if you get to this step then they often can't start building your carport for several months. If you would prefer to wait days and not months, then a prefab carport can come home with you from the showroom and be erected by you and a coiuple of friends over a weekend.

Easy To Move

and even if you do own a home people move a lot more often than they did 20 years ago. This is why I like prefabricated carports because being easy to build they are also easy to pull down and take with you somehwere else.

One word of caution, a custom built carport can look like it really belongs on your home and add a lot of value. But if you are into saving money and getting soemthing up quickly, then a prefabricated carport may be your best option.
