Once you have decided on the material its now time to get it designed.  You need a professional draftsman or architect to draw up your plans for you so that you can submit them to the local authorities for approval.

How to build a Carport

Of course once you have your carport plans it's a decision regarding how best to build it that is your next most important decision.  If you go for a custom carport its is likely that you chosen supplier will probably provide the design service as well.  Also if you go for a prefab carport you will just need to get the diagrams that come with the carport.

Depending on your local authorities, a highly rewarding way to build you carport is to do it yourself.  It doesn't take many skills and if you are in no hurry can easily be completed in small chunks over a few week.

Carport Construction

Deciding on the materials that your carport will be constructed from will largely determine the style and cost of your new homes addition.  There are three main materials used:
